Esteban Chaves Foundation Receives Donation from SCOTT

28 September 2020

SCOTT contributes to Esteban Chaves foundation FUN with a donation following up on the sales of his special edition Addict RC frame set.

To raise awareness for Esteban's foundation FUN, SCOTT launched a very special Addict RC frame set at the 2019 UCI World Championship in Yorkshire. A year later, SCOTT is proud to announce that 52.400 Euro been raised with the commercial sale of the unique frame set. This will be directly donated to Esteban's foundation FUN providing support to its medical program and cycling sports promotion in Columbia.

Esteban's foundation is founded on two main pillars: Sport (Cycling) and Medicine (Orthopedics). The "FUN Esteban Chaves cycling team" gives young Colombians the chance to develop through sport and healthy competition. The Gran Fondo Esteban Chaves (medical program) program was established to change the life of children who may not have the resources to treat their orthopedic problems that make it difficult for them to play, write, or even walk.

"I am really grateful to SCOTT for believing in me and my dreams, both on and off the bike. They have been providing me with the best equipment since I reached the World Tour and they also have been supporting my social cause in Colombia with material over the past couple of years."

The fact that people around the world can have FUN's frame, is exciting and that has only been possible thanks to them. Every person that purchased the bike, is transforming children's lives and it really means a lot to me" Esteban Chaves further explaines.

"Esteban Chaves is arguable one of the most admired riders in the world of cycling. His smile and positive attitude are infectious and bring light in the often-superficial world of professional sports. I had the chance to visit him last year in Colombia and see how much energy and passion he puts in everyday for his foundation. It was an easy decision from us to help him as much as possible to move his foundation forward", says Janosch Wintermantel, Road & Triathlon Marketing Manager at SCOTT Sports.

Behind the Smile Documentary
In the last couple of years, the young Colombian has likely experienced more ups and downs than most of us will experience in a lifetime. He was runner up at the Giro d'Italia, third at the Vuelta a Espana and became the first non-European winner of Il Lombardia, but then also struggled with sickness and career threatening injuries. In this documentary you can look behind the smile of the Colombian climber and find out more about his foundation and daily life.

The Esteban Chaves Special Addict RC Edition Frame Set
This Addict RC frame kit was featured in SCOTT's 2020 collection and a contribution of 200€ per frame set went directly to Esteban's foundation FUN. The frame features the colors of the FUN Esteban Chaves foundation. The SCOTT signature on the down tube has the same multicolored pattern as used for his foundation. The blue and silver paint has a unique premium finish, which sparkles in the sun and gives the bike a one of a kind look.

About Esteban Chaves
The 30-year-old Colombian from Bogotà showed enormous potential early in his career, winning the Tour de l'Avenir in 2011, only to be sidelined a couple of years later with severe injuries in a crash that left his young career in serious question. In 2014, the Orica-GreenEdge team saw the talent within and offered Esteban an initial three-year contract – even though he had yet to return to his potential as a result of his injuries. A year later, Chaves won a stage of the Vuelta a España, and he had a break-out season in 2016 achieving runner up in the Giro d'Italia, third in the Vuelta a España, and winning the Giro di Lombardia. But in 2017, it all started sliding away when he suffered servere knee pain and was later diagnosed with Epstein Barr virus. Once again, he managed to bounce back to win a stage at the 2019 Giro d'Italia and he is currently competing as part of the Mitchelton-Scott team at the 2020 Tour de France.
