MOTOCROSS MXGP MONSTER ENERGY MXON LATVIA 2014

29 septembre 2014

Ferrandis and Frossard win the MX of Nations with team France!

Team France and their three Kawasaki riders won for the second time in history. In the 68th edition of this amazing race, the Motocross of Nations, Steven Frossard, Dylan Ferrandis and Gautier Paulin were the strongest of the weekend, beating teams Belgium and USA in Kegums (Latvia).

What an amazing weekend! The MX of Nations, traditional ‘National Teams’ race has always the same success, this year was no exception with an unusual atmosphere in the cold Latvia. Once a season the riders compete for their team (nation) rather than individually, giving an additional excitement to this race!

With Dylan Ferrandis (MX2 rider), Gautier Paulin (MXGP) and Steven Frossard (racing the Open class) team France had a strong line-up, even without reigning MX2 World Champion. The Frenchies did a great job through the weekend, scoring a strong second position in the qualifying races and then leading the overall classification from the first to the last race on Sunday. Winner of his two races, Paulin had a strong performance and lead the way for his teammates; placing second and fourth Steven Frossard had his best races of the season, while Dylan Ferrandis came back twice from ninth position to secure second overall. It’s the second time after Namur (2001) that team France won the MXoN, and they will defend their title next year at home in Ernée.

Winner last year, team Belgium secured the second position, followed by teams USA and England. USA (Martin, Dungey, Tomac) was classified third, as Great Britain (Searle, Wilson, Simpson) lost the podium due to a technical failure on Simpson. Team Germany (Nagl, Ullrich, Jacobi) finished in fifth position, followed by team Italy (Cairoli, Guarneri, Philippaerts) and team Switzerland had its best finished ever, but unfortunately missed a top five result with a last minutes crash in the final race.

Dylan Ferrandis: “In both races I told my teammates that they must get a great start so I gave them the best gate on the starting line. I was twentieth on the grid and came back twice into the top ten after the inevitable bad starts; I gave all what I had to get these results. I made a few mistakes but I’m proud of what we did today with Gautier and Steven. I knew that we could be on the podium after we spent all the week together training in Latvia and that was great. Before the last race I was convinced that we would win!”

Steven Frossard: “Today my teammates and I did a great job, and I was happy with my riding. In my first race I got the holeshot but then I had arm pump, however I still secured a second position, which was good for the team. Then in the last moto I pushed hard to come back in the top five; I knew that Gautier was leading and that we could win. It’s my best race of the season; it was a great experience to be there with the French team.”

Results: 1.France (Paulin, Frossard, Ferrandis); 2.Belgium (Van Horebeek, Strijbos, Lieber); 3.USA (Dungey, Tomac, Martin); 4.Great Britain (Simpson, Wilson, Searle); 5.Germany (Nagl, Ullrich, Jacobi); 6.Italy (Guarneri, Philippaerts, Cairoli); 7.Switzerland (Tonus, Guillod, Seewer); etc…
