Jeremy Jones wins Big Mountain Rider of the Year Award

Jeremy Jones has run away with our Big Mountain title for over half a decade. How can one man be so dominant for so long? Simple. Jeremy does it by cheating…cheating death!  At least that’s how it appears. JP Walker doesn’t need to count the stairs in Jeremy’s shots to know he stepped it up: “To be honest, he had my favorite part in Standard’s Catch the Vapors. I was on the edge of my seat. The helmet cam shots kinda put it in prospective. So gnarly, all of that slough on loose snow pulling his board around while he’s on top of some crazy spines. Just sketchy.” More than any other rider, Jeremy has to rely on the Standard and TGR film cameras to bring his message to the masses. Not because he needs take after take to nail the trick; in fact, Jeremy’s riding doesn’t even allow the opportunity for a second try. Rather, it's because there are no spectators or network TV cameras where Jeremy shreds. Even his peers become scarce when it comes to the terrain he is tackling. Devun Walsh is a big mountain badass in his own right, but even he would rather admire from afar. Devun admits “That crazy mutha- I wouldn’t even exit the helicopter in some of the spots he gets dropped off.”

For most pros, taking their riding to the next level is a linear process that involves adding a few degrees to a spin here and making it onto a major podium there. For Jeremy, the paradigm is a bit more complicated. Jones spends seasons pursuing bigger and steeper peaks in order to ride terrain that was previously thought impossible. Bjorn Leines, who knows a thing or two about going off-off piste, feels that Jeremy is unrivaled. BJ boasts, “Nobody is riding down descents as steep with such gnarly exposure and consequence.” Lib Technician Travis Rice exclaims, “I wanted to vote this guy Rider of the Year, because when you watch him charge Alaska, you realize no one is even coming close to the lines this guy conquers on the regular. Big ups to Jeremy for the most stimulating film part of the year.”
