MOTOCROSS GP OF SWEDEN

Winner in Uddevalla of his second MX1 Grand Prix this season, Clément Desalle is the new leader of the World Championship as reigning champion Antonio Cairoli didn’t scored any point in Sweden. Winner in MX2, Tommy Searle is coming back in the series and is now sixteen points behind Jeffrey Herlings.

The rain played a major role in Cairoli’s defeat, as the former leader of the series got mud and stones in the chain of his KTM after the start of race one, and was forced to retire in the second lap. He was fifth in the second race when he got stuck in the mud, and didn’t finish any moto.

Twice second at the beginning of each race behind Christophe Pourcel, Clément Desalle passed the Frenchman to grab a double win which allowed him to get the red plate. "It's a good result today and also a good situation with the Championship. I am happy with my riding. I feel confident and could do what I wanted on the bike and this was just as important to me. It was a bad day for Tony Cairoli and a good one for me, and it was a bit strange to get the red plate like that but these things can happen in a mechanical sport and I have also had some bad luck this season. We are doing the best that we can and I don't want to speak about the Championship too early. I just go as fast as I can and in the best shape possible. Every small detail that helps you feel better on the bike or can win you time is really good and my team is so professional when it comes to this and they have so much experience so I have to say thanks to them. We have done some testing and we are trying to improve further and I think some of the work we did last week helped me today" said Clément.

Second of the GP Christophe Pourcel is now third in the standings, only twelve points behind the new leader, while Sébastien Pourcel got his best result of the last three years with a fourth overall.

Second of the first race behind Jeffrey Herlings, Tommy Searle did a one man show in the second heat and claimed an important victory. With Herlings only seventh, Searle is now sixteen points behind his rival in the standings. “I got to the front quickly in both motos and had the races under control. Unfortunately I could not win the first moto. In race two I got past Dylan (Ferrandis) quickly and just focused on riding smooth laps. Of course I would have liked to win both motos, but ironically I actually gained more points on Jeffrey today than if I had gone 1-1 and he 2-2. I've been confident all year; I just have to stay focused" explained Tommy after the race. Jordi Tixier did another strong performance with a sixth position, and is currently fifth in the standings.
