Marco de Gasperi wins El Cruce 2014

11 février 2014

Trail runners, Emma Roca (Spa) and Marco de Gasperi (ITA - SCOTT Team) have won the 13th edition of El Cruce Columbia, a three-stage race held in Patagonia, between Chile and Argentina, where runners cover a total of 100km with 5,000 meters of elevation gain.

The male category was dominated by Italian Marco de Gasperi who returned from an injury that had previously prevented him from competing at full potential for almost all of last year’s season. De Gasperi, more specialized in long distance, began by taking advantage of the first stage. Running approximately 40 kilometers, he gained nearly 10 minutes on his main rivals, South American Sergio TRECAMAN and talent Dakota Jones (USA). The second stage was tighter among the three favorites, TRECAMAN winning the battle scratched a one minute advantage over the other two. Although not enough for the overall win, he was able to overtake Dakota Jones, who placed third. The last stage was De Gasperi in control and management of his nearly nine minute lead. Despite attempts by TRECAMAN the advantage of the Italian was never less than three minutes.

This resulted in Marco de Gasperi winning the El Cruce Columbia by about five minutes with a cumulative time of 6h34'10". Sergio TRECAMAN placed second at 6h38'46", while in the last stage Dakota Jones finished his struggle for victory securing a podium position with a time of 6h52'37".
