Saturday was a day for smashing records.  SCOTT Sports athletes Sage Canaday and Meghan Arbogast, both clad in their favorite trail running shoe, the T2 Kinabalu, took their race fields by storm.  Both athletes landed on the podium, both walked home with prize money, and more impressively, both athletes took home 2 new course records at the Speedgoat 50k and SCOTT Sports White River 50.

Saturday, July 27th proved victoiorus for Sage Canaday.  Taking home the top spot on the podium, the grand prize, and a course record, the Speedgoat 50k proved to be a race that appealed to Sage's strengths.  While Sage is known to be strong when it comes to climbing, even Sage found himself in pain, hands-on-knees power-hiking up a 2,000 foot climb just to reach mile 23.  In a race that admittedly felt more like a 50 miler than a 50k to Sage, his key to success was to break from the pack early and to dominate the early hills to build a solid lead.  Finishing the race in 5 hours, 8 minutes, and 7 seconds, Sage was well under the course records set just the previous year by such powerhouses as Kilian Jornet and Rickey Gates.  With this win, Sage moves into 2nd place in the overall standings for the Ultra Skymarathon Series, putting all eyes on Sage and Kilian Jornet September 28th at the UROC 100.

Meghan Arbogast - New Course Record

Over in Crystal Mountain, WA, Meghan Arbogast was setting records of her own at the SCOTT Sports White River 50.  Finishing the 50 mile scenic course in 8 hours, 37 minutes, 20 seconds, Meghan set a new course record for her age group, women's 50-59.  Finishing 29nd overall, Meghan was a mere 10 minutes behind the 1st place women's finisher Ashley Arnold, who competed in the 20-29 age group.  Meghan set out to best her previous course-winning time from 2010 of 8 hours and 10 minutes, and while she narrowly missed that goal, Meghan ran a hard race, feeling some residual fatigue from her Western States 100 race in June and some pacing she did for a friend the week before.  Altogether, the SCOTT Sports White River 50 was a huge success for Meghan and we are more than proud of her and her course record!

Upcoming for SCOTT Athletes

The first few weeks of August see SCOTT athletes jumping the pond and storming the mountains of Europe.  Joseph Gray and Sage Canaday both head to Switzerland to compete in the Thyone Dixence (Joe), Glacier 300 (Joe) and Sierre-Zinal (Sage), while Meghan Arbogast will stay on the French side of the Alps for the UTMB 100 in Chamonix.  Meanwhile stateside, I an Sharman will head out for his 3rd 100 miler at the Leadville 100 in Colorado mid-month.  All in all, August will be a huge month for SCOTT athletes in all corners of the globe!
