MATTERHORN ULTRAKS – SECOND EDITION UNDER BRIGHT SUN

25 août 2014

The sun, which showed up rather rare this summer, was with the 1’388 participants with 59 different nationalities, who took part of the second edition of the Matterhorn Ultraks Trail this morning – a race, which seems to be firmly embedded in the Trail Calendar of all runners. While the top and the well-trained athletes set off early in the morning for the so-called «46K», the amateur athletes started on the «30K» and «16K» races. The new track «2VK» was aimed to those who want to avoid the descent.

The Swiss Rémi Bonnet (TEAM SCOTT) won the shortest distance of the Matterhorn Ultraks race, the «16K», which belongs to the Wallis Bergcup.

On the «46K», the flagship model of the Matterhorn Ultraks Trail and the 4th stage of the Skyrunner® World Series, Michel Lanne (FR) and Emelie Forsberg (SE) were handled as favorites. Both had finally made way for Zaïd Ait Malek (MA), who won the competition, followed by Swiss Gion Andrea Bundi and Spanish Egea Aritz. The Moroccan is finally helding its major victory, which could be his breakthrough. On the women’s side, Stevie Kremer (US) won the women’s race and entered the finish line before Elisa Desco (IT) running for the SCOTT Team and Maite Maiora (ES).

The numerous spectators who came to cheer up to their favorite athletes were able to follow the race in the “Espace Ultraks”. A big screen transmitted live impressions of the race, followed by music and surrounded by various stands. SCOTT as the main sponsor of the race provided specially branded Running bags and vouchers for an everyday SCOTT Ultraks bottle. Hundreds of people were standing line to wait for their presents at the SCOTT booth.

The next edition of the Matterhorn Ultraks is already set: The second ski mountaineering race takes place on March 21, 2015.
