2013 Freeride World Tour - Revelstoke

19 janvier 2013

The 2013 Freeride World Tour kicked off in Revelstoke, B.C. on January 7th.  The week began with a storm rolling through the entire province of British Columbia, bringing as much as 75cm of snow pushing back the competition.

Wednesday night, the long-awaited official start day was announced; that Friday, January 11th, the event would kick off.  The course boundaries were set on Mackenzie Peak a.k.a. Mac Daddy face, which only allowed riders to do visual inspections to choose their lines, rather than actually skiing the run beforehand.  Thursday night at the base of the mountain, a mandatory riders' meeting was held with all 60 competitors attending and receving a final information session.

Due to the remote location of the event, spectators were encouraged to view the contest on one of the live streams being broadcast in all mountain restaurants and bars.  The base of the gondola had a few vendors that set up displays and spoke to people about their products.  Although difficult, for those who did not wish to watch the event on a computer or TV, it was possible to upload on the gondola, then the Stoke chair, followed by an hour long boot pack to the events viewing ridge.

Trail to event location

SCOTT representatives were on location for the event to provide support to the athletes and help with promotions.

SCOTT Sports teamed up with the local radio station Stoke FM to give away limited edition SCOTT Freeride World Tour Goggles, Team Issue Poles, and other SCOTT products to the listeners that couldn't make it to the event.

SCOTT team rider Jeremie Heitz secured 2nd place in the finals of the first stop of the 2013 FWT in Revelstoke, B.C.  Click here to watch Jeremie's 2nd place run on the new SCOTT Scrapper Ski.
