Kienle Wins 70.3 Chattanooga

23 May 2016

At IM 70.3 Oceanside, Kienle was taken out of the battle for the win due to a flat that cost him precious time. After a solid block of training, the 2014 IM World Champion lined up at the 70.3 US Championships in St. George where he placed second in a stellar field. The German decided early on to complete his US Tour this year with the 70.3 race in Chattanooga as the 2017 half-distance World Championships will be carried out in this location.

After the 1.9 kilometer swim, Kienle for once excited the water with the leaders and immediatly started to charge on the bike. It was only the young Australian Sam Appelton who was able to keep up with the German Uberbiker during the bike leg. On the run, Kienle surged in the opening kilometer to open up a small gap which increased continously from then on. Kienle crossed the finish line with the second fastest run split of the day, winning with a margin of over 2 minutes on Sam Appelton.

The 2014 IM World Champion will continue his race season on home soil leading into the next big goal, the IM European Championships in Frankfurt in July.
