Athlete talk

What are you excited about in your partnership with SCOTT?

I’ve worked on my own on optimising my bike setup for years and I’m really looking forward to having input from a team like SCOTT. In partnering with SCOTT I’m excited to get the chance to work with a team that has the same ambitions and dedicated attitude towards every single aspect and detail of their bikes. When I toe the line in a race, I want to be sure that I’m racing on the fastest equipment available, and I truly believe that SCOTT delivers that.

What is your all-time favourite riding destination?

My favorite riding destination so far is Girona in Spain. Empty roads in beautiful, varied, and demanding terrain makes it a wonderful place, not just for bike riding but also triathlon training in general.

What does "No Shortcuts" mean to you?

“No Shortcuts” is for me a mantra that embraces the whole lifestyle I’m living as a professional triathlete. From training smart and structured for more than 35 hours a week to analysing every detail to find the fastest equipment, optimising my diet for performance, or paying attention to the recovery in between and after my sessions. There are truly no shortcuts when it comes to success in endurance sport or life in general.

What do you get up to when you’re not training for Triathlon?

Outside my training I like to spend time with my girlfriend and family. Apart from that, all aspects of my life are basically centred around triathlon so when I’m not training, I’m usually trying to recover to the best of my ability or catching up on the latest equipment (mainly aero related) and training developments. However, if I had a day off in a sunny summer house near a lake, I would probably go fishing and just try to relax and find peace in my own head.

Outside of triathlon, where do you draw inspiration from?

I draw a lot of inspiration from science and the scientific approach. I have a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, and I try to bring the methods and ways of solving problems that I learned from my education into every aspect of my life, whether it’s triathlon or not. In my network, I have inspiring and competent people with success in different fields. They are a great inspiration to me and I try to learn as much as possible from them and transfer it to my own carrier as a professional triathlete.

You’re stranded on a desert island. What three things would you want with you?

My girlfriend, my bike and some fishing equipment.
