The New Road Premium shoes

27 June 2012
Beside the Foil and Plasma bikes and the Wit and Split helmets from Team ORICA-GreenEDGE you will spot some brand-new shoes coming from SCOTT Sports at this year’s Tour de France.

Luke Fryer, the designer of the new premium Road shoe, gives an insight into the work on the new model for 2013, which will be worn by four of SCOTT Sport’s Footwear Athletes in the next 3 weeks.

"The Road Premium cycling shoe has been redesigned for 2013. By incorporating feedback from our professional cyclists, we have made targeted modifications to improve both fit and comfort."

"The shoe’s performance fit has been enhanced with a new upper construction. The upper now utilizes a series of ribs to effectively wrap the foot and create a secure bridge between the sole and the closure system. The mesh area between the ribs also affords good ventilation, keeping feet comfortably cool."

"The BOA closure system has also undergone some revisions. The narrow pulleys have been replaced with wider 2-to-1 lace loops, and a new tongue featuring a three dimensionally molded stiffener and cushion. These features work in tandem to more comfortably distribute the forces of the BOA laces across the instep, and a Velcro strap has been added across the forefoot to further tailor the fit."

"At the back of the shoe, the Anatomic Heel Counter was made both stronger and taller. Coupled with additionally reinforcing details, the system will work in unison with the BOA lacing to securely cradle the foot, and eliminate heel slip."

"With the emergence of Team GreenEDGE, the design directive for the new Road Premium shoe was clear—look different from the rest of the peloton. The shoe blends from white to a deep green, conveying a sense of speed, and the main microfiber is a bright, glossy GreenEDGE green, will definitely stand out in a crowd."
Sandy Casar, Matthieu Ladagnous, Thibaut Pinot (all FDJ) and Kadri Blel (AG2R La Mondiale) will ride the new Road Premium shoes at the Tour de France.

Interview with Sandy Casar a few hours before the Big Loop Start.

1. Why are you riding SCOTT shoes and what’s important to you when choosing a cycling-shoe? What are the “must haves” of a good cycling shoe?

Above all, a good cycling shoe needs to be comfortable and provide good foot support. The feet must not be squashed or inflamed.  I have tested several shoes from SCOTT’s competitors, but SCOTT remains the best.

2. What do you tell people about SCOTT shoes? What do you like most about SCOTT shoes?

The design is very nice and the shoe is comfortable and light. At the same time the shoes remain rigid & stiff which helps to transfer maximum power on the pedals which can help a lot during a race.

3. What do you think of our new adjustable ErgoLogic insole?

The ErgoLogic insoles are very well-thought out. Often cycling shoes have a basic insole, but with the ErgoLogic system it’s like having an orthopedic insole. This increases the comfort and the efficiency of the shoes.

4. What are your goals for 2012?

My main goals for 2012 are to win as many of the races that I participate in as possible. Above all I’d like to win at the Tour de France.
