Scott Sports team gives it all at Zegama

18 May 2015

International Scott Running athletes Marco DeGasperi and Elisa Desco, both second last year, have come back to better their performance. Yet, after a week feeling under the weather, the two athletes didn’t look for excuses and faced the challenge.

The mens race started aggressively with a few runners pushing hard through the first climb to create a gap on the rest of the field.

At Aitxuri (23k) Marco was running conservatively in 6th with Merillas and Rullan just 2’30” back from the leaders.

As the race unfolded, Marco did push through the finish to gain one more spot but wasn’t able to catch up with the leaders. Considering his bed sensations, he still managed to secure a solid 5th place in 3:58:47.

In the women’s race, Elisa hit Aitxuri together with Oihana Kortazar, Azahara Garcia, all three leading the women’s field.

Elisa moving strong on the early stages of the race.

The pace too fast to sustain for Elisa’s current form, she eventually had to pulled back. After an incredible effort to give the best she could, she wrapped it up in 6th position in a time of 4:57:09.  Elisa collapsed as she crossed the finish line, and immediately after was taken care of by Marco and the race medics.

Crazy Idea athlete Tadei Pivk (IT) won the day in a time of 3:51:11, sporting the ever so performing Scott T2 Kinabalu trail running shoes.

In the junior race, where younger talents sharpen their skills before they can enter the international playground, Marti Vigo Del Arco improved his 5th place in 2013 and hit the third step of the podium.

The spanish cross country skier finished his winter season in April, and gave himself a month to recover. "In May I started again with the training. I was a little bit frightened because i had to prepare Zegama just in two weeks." said Vigo Del Arco.

With a very fast start, Marti lacked speed and had to dig deep to keep up with the leaders. Yet a witer of XC skiing sure prepares well for the climbs. "I was second all the uphill and in the downhill too but in the last two km the third overtook me and finally I arrived third five seconds behind second."

A podium after only two weeks of specific trainning, we can only forsee a great season competing in the Spanish Cup and VK, as well as a few longer races.
