Electric Bike Shred on Ski Slopes with Vinny T

09 April 2019

During summer, we are used to seeing Vinny T on exposed ridges in Utah or on 25 meter jumps along with his downhill bike. In winter time, the terrain changes, but it’s still all about bikes for him, electric bikes to be precise! Have a look at how Vinny rides an E-Bike! Based in the French Alps he must deal with snow in front of his door most of the winter, far from leaving his bikes in the back corner of his garage he finds solutions to live the freeride dream 365 days per year. Thanks to the assistance of an electric bike and more than 300 spikes per tire, he can go up ski slopes and ride down on icy snow. Backflips and Barspins are just a way to add some spice on the ride, especially with a 23kg electric mountain bike.

Only a few riders on this planet can barspin an Electric Bike and even fewer on snow!

A few hours before the skiers hit the slopes, Vinny gets the best from the freshly groomed snow to find the grip to go up. Even though he has assistance, a 30% ski slope is a real workout to climb!

For the story, the Genius eRIDE speed indicator stops at 99Km/h… Vinny did a first try at 103km/h where a mistake can already be catastrophic. Few days after the video, he decides to go up the ski slopes again on a really cold morning and reach 119Km/h. He said that at that speed the bike starts to shake because of the asperity of the slope and the wind, but it’s still so much fun!

Custom tires made by Vinny himself, more than 300 screws on each tire to get supreme traction.

Vincent Tupin uses 13mm screws in the center tread and 16mm screws on the side nobs. He tried longer screws in the past but as soon as he was riding on a dirt patch or a wood feature, it was completely unstable. This is for him the good compromise.

About the screw type, as of this year Vinny has been riding with self-tapping screws, the grip is better, and they last longer. Before he used classic wood screws.

The base is a downhill mud tire with a rigid casing. Doing one tire is the perfect autumn job, it takes about 2 hours to just put the screws and then another solid hour to seal the tire. For that Vinny sticks a cut air tube on the base of the tire then he puts tape above and then a normal tube pumped to 2.5 Bar. One tire lasts the whole winter.

The tire ready to hit the snow.
Approximate weight: 2.4kg
