Meet Daniel. The 23-year-old hails from a nation where cycling remains hidden in obscurity. His talent is raw and obvious. The depths of his potential await exploration.
Daniel dominated cycling in the African continent last season and has spent the past three years as a member of the UCI World Centre. The organization, established to foster talent from countries such as Eritrea, has enabled Daniel to compete in European races such as the Tour de L’Avenir.
Daniel finished sixth overall in L’Avenir in 2009. The race, considered a Tour de France for under-23 riders, often gives a good indication of a rider’s potential. Having identified promise in the young African, GreenEDGE management hopes Daniel can continue to develop to become a useful asset to the Australian team.
"I’m really happy to have this opportunity with GreenEDGE. I’m learning every day, and I will be giving all I have to make the most of it."
