Meet Matt. Another product of the Australian Institute of Sport, Matt emerged from the track to forge a successful career on the road. He became the second Australian to win a cycling Monument when outsprinting a break of eight to take 2011 edition of Milan-San Remo.
The exciting sprint solidified his status as one of the pro peloton’s preeminent sprinters and ultimately landed him a leadership position at GreenEDGE. He is embracing the opportunity to take on more responsibility within Australia’s first big league team. While his quick to acknowledge the increased responsibilities accompanies an increase in pressure, Matt says he thrives under pressure.
He aims to build on his Milan-San Remo success whilst continuing to learn in some of the year’s biggest races. Matt provided services in fast finishes to Mark Cavendish and Andre Griepel during the last two seasons and looks forward to his opportunity to be the final wheel on the GreenEDGE sprint train.
"We want to be successful in the classics and go to stage races targeting stage wins – that’s perfect for me. We have the right team to achieve these goals. I’ll be ready."
