Albasini Wins Final Stage of Tour de Romandie

02 5월 2016
Albasini's home-bid took a bad start when he crashed in the opening prologue of Tour de Romandie. On stage one, the Swiss rider filed yet another near miss sprinting to third. On the last stage that proved to be no different to the previous stages with regards to weather conditions, Albasini saw himself in the lead group early on. In the closing kilometers of the race it looked like the main bunch would be able to close the remaining seconds to the leading group of four that included Albasini. When a crash held up the peleton it was a solo attack from a BMC rider that threatened to steal the victory from Albasini. However, the ORICA-GreenEDGE rider brought himself back into contention and sprinted passed his last rival to take the victory. “I heard on the race radio that the gap was 17 seconds so I didn’t expect to see the BMC guy come flying past me but I thought his effort may die in the last 500 meters," Albasini said. “I launched my sprint a bit early with around 400 metres to go and thankfully it was just about enough," analyzed a happy Albasini after the race.
