MOTOCROSS MXGP OF THAILAND 2015

GP2: Thailand

Desalle leads the MXGP series

Second overall at the hot GP of Thailand, Clement Desalle (450 Suzuki) scored his second podium in a row and is the new leader of the MXGP World Championship. Again on the podium this weekend, Dylan Ferrandis (250 Kawasaki) finishes the weekend second overall in the MX2 class.

It was one of the toughest GPs in recent memories, with high temperatures on the brand new track, built 35 km west of Bangkok. The second race was shortened by five minutes, as several riders including Jordi Tixier felt unwell and crashed before the end of the first moto. Jordi, as well as Seewer and Gajser did not take part in the second race.

American Ryan Villopoto won his first ever Grand Prix with a win and a third position, while Clement finished second of the event with two runner-up positions, first behind Villopoto and later Cairoli. He is the new leader of the series going into the third round scheduled later this month in Argentina. “My starts were better today and that's a positive thing. Two strong results and that’s important because my goal for the moment is to be like that every moto. I’m happy with my feeling on the bike and the control I have. I am trying to enjoy myself as much as possible because I know that is when the results come. We will do some testing now and I’m excited about the chance to get a bit better in small areas. It is great to have the red plate for the first time since 2013. The bike will look nice in Argentina!” said the Suzuki rider.

Dylan Ferrandis

In the MX2 class Jeffrey Herlings again won both motos, and with a second and a fourth position Dylan Ferrandis secured his second consecutive podium, and is currently runner up in the series. “I should be happy with two podiums and second in the standings, but I’m also frustrated as I dropped more points to Jeffrey. We’ve been coming here to Thailand for three years now but we never had such weather; it was really tough today. My first start was really good; I made a few mistakes but took a strong second placed finish. I kept some energy for the second moto but my start was not as good and I had to recover from twelfth to fourth. I felt tired mid race and didn’t want to make a silly mistake so I was satisfied to secure the fourth position, which gave me third overall,” said Dylan who leads team mate Thomas Covington, fourth in the GP. The young American got his best ever GP result with two fifth places and a fourth overall. Julien Lieber unfortunately destroyed his chances when he crashed in the first race and was unable to finish, fortunately he secured a strong third position in the second heat.
