The Getaway – Dangerholm

26 1월 2024

Weekend getaways doesn't need to imply too much of planning, booking, or traveling. It could just be the next city or an undiscovered part of the local woods. The Getaway hope to inspire the extended utilization of the E-Bike as a tool for weekend explorations or quick everyday escapes. Just mount those bike bags, pack the snacks, and get out of the house!

In the heart of Sweden, we have the traditional small-town Mora, famous for Morakniv bushcraft knives, Dalahästar and hosts of the biggest marathon MTB race in Sweden, Cykelvasan. Another thing sparkling with its fame in Mora is Gustav Dangerholm, custom bike builder. We will follow Gustav and his friend Jacob during a perfect getaway weekend in Sweden, going on local trails and showing the best stops for Swedish fika.

The Axis eRIDE FS 10 is a perfect touring bike, with a generous full suspension, rack and fenders and lights, you’re ready for everything that might get in your way. There are no limitations of explorations, the Axis manages it all and this video proves it.

From Mora, there are trails easily accessible for every riding level, but we craved camping vibes. Therefore, we started off our weekend exploration with heading to Hökberg and finding a perfect camp site for the night, only 10 meters from the trails. Once the van was parked, we packed snacks and spare tubes to be ready for the trails. We started off with a tour around Moralånga-rundan, a popular trail of 24km flat and easy-going single track for weekend cruising. After the ride, we stopped by Hökbergs fäbodcafé for some real Swedish fika. Hökbergs fäbodcafé is a café open during the summertime and located along the popular Cykelvasan racecourse, naturally a popular place for cyclists to recharge with some coffee, cinnamon buns, and other sweets.

Fully reloaded with Swedish pastries, we wanted something more challenging for our experience level and went climbing the Hökberg hill. The climb is rather technical, but with the help from the Bosch motors and the comfort of our Axis eRIDE made it easier to overcome. Once on the top, we were rewarded with a great view of Dalarna.

Coming back to the camp site, we plugged the bikes into the solar cell system for fuelling them up after a whole day of riding. While the bikes charged up, we refuelled ourselves too by enjoying the sunset with a campfire and some hotdogs.

Starting up our second day, we went to Sollerön, the island of the sun surrounded by the lake Siljan. A thousand years ago, this place was populated by Vikings, so we aimed for a breakfast that matches the energy of the area. Strong black coffee and knäckebröd with falukorv is the ultimate breakfast before a day on the bike. The day will be spent at Gesunda bike Park, a place me and Jacob know like the back of our hand as we've been riding here since we were kids. While the bike park being closed for the season, we had to be our own shuttles up to the top. For us, this place is always a must when we're back in Mora, to get some sweet descending and play around. For this time, we're here with the SCOTT AXIS eRIDE FS 10 which is not a downhill bike. So even though you should enjoy the bike in a more suitable terrain, I hope that seeing this will encourage you to not feel held back by the bike and inspire you to have fun taking it off the pavement from time to time.

This is how a weekend, not far from home, in Sweden can look like. It doesn’t need to be more than this.
