Danish Dynamite at ETU Championship

June, 29, 2010
Last sunday Martin Jensen from Denmark won the silvermedal in an exciting race for the ETU European Long Distance Championships in Spain (4k swim – 120k bike – 30k run).

After 5hr 37min, he was only beaten by triathlon super-star, Eneko Llanos (Winner of Abu Dhabi Triathlon 2010, Ironman Lanzarote 2010, 2nd at Hawaii 2008 and an Ironman PB of 8.00.21 from Frankfurt, 2009) by a mere margin of only 1min27sec.

Coming out of the water in front of the first group, he was dominating the entire bike ride, pushing the pace all the way. During this, other athletes kept falling off the first group due to the fast pace, and coming into 2nd transition it was only Llanos and Jensen in front and both had a huge gap to the next athletes.

On the run, Eneko Llanos started a very fast pace, and Martin had to let him go immediately as his plan was to start the run in 3:35/km and he even did the first 2 km in just under 7 minutes. But he still lost about 25 seconds to the Spaniard on the first 2 km. At the finish line Martin was only 1min27 after Llanos, but more than 12 minutes ahead of the 3rd placed Jimmy Johnsen.
