Francon and Ligocki come in third place at FIS snowboardcross World CUP
A good day for SCOTT boardercrossers at the FIS World Cup in Sungwoo, Korea. Mellie Francon from Switzerland and Mateusz Ligocki from Poland both stood strong against the international competition, with each finishing third.
This is Mellie’s third podium during this season, after coming in second in Valle Nevado (Chile) and Bad Gastein (Austria). Mellie is showing consistent form. The only two girls that managed to be faster than Mellie were Olympic silver medallist Lindsey Jacobellis, who was second, and the current leader of the World Cup ranking Maelle Ricker. 26-year old Francon is now in third position in the FIS World Cup boardercross standings. Scott rider Sandra Frei came in sixth and Olympic gold medalist Tanja Frieden placed 14th.
The men’s final was a head-to-head decision with Pierre Vaultier (France) winning in front of Nate Holland (USA). Mateusz gave away his second position with a small mistake at the end of the course but still placed third. As he said, “I lost the second spot because I was pushing too hard on the edges in a backside turn. Thereafter I had to go switch for a moment while Nate (Holland) was able to overtake me. Then, I had to fight for the third place. Although I could have done better I’m very pleased with the race today.”
