X Games Six Pack
SCOTT USA athletes dominated at the 2002 Winter X Games held in Aspen, Colorado. When all was said and done, six SCOTT USA athletes in six different events made it to the podium; mom would be so proud!
Women's Skier X:
At the top of the mountain Aleisha Cline came out of the gate strong but missed the hole shot. She was locked in the pack for the early part of the course but at the fourth hit, she shot into the lead. After that it became a race for second place as she expanded her lead, finishing well ahead of second place Magdalena Jonsson. Although this would be Aleisha's third X-Games Gold you could still see the excitement in her eyes as she did a little dance on top of the podium.
Men's Skier X:
The field was stacked with ex-World Cuppers, not to mention last year's winner Zach Crist, who was looking for a repeat. This race was not going to be a walk in the park for older bro, Reggie Crist, who had his work cut out for him.
When asked who was going to win the finals, skiing Legend Michael Beaudry said, "I really feel that Reg is going to dominate this race. You can see it in his eyes. He is hungry. All week I have been watching the boys train and Reggie really wants this." Sun Valley local and teammate Jamie Holman, who happened to be standing nearby commented, "I have been seeing Reg in the gym every day for the last three months. He is definitely ready. My money is on him."
Not known to disappoint, Reggie plowed ahead of the pack on the second berm, giving the ex-Olympian a strong lead. Ripping through the heavily falling fluffy stuff, Reggie kept it together to take the Gold nearly a second ahead of another SCOTT USA athlete, Peter Lind, who came in second to claim the Silver medal.
Freestyle Moto X:
Mama, don't let your babies grow up to be Freestyler's - after "Mad" Mike Jones' performance at the X Games, you may agree. A crowd favorite and longtime SCOTT USA athlete, "Mad" Mike, pulled a clean, fully extended Kiss of Death to claim the Silver. For those of you who don't know what that is, let me explain. Imagine being 35 feet in the air on a 217 lb motorcycle doing a handstand while trying to kiss the front fender. Need I say more? While one would think this would be gold-worthy, the judges turned to the "dark side" by awarding the Metal Militia's Brian Deegan the Gold and "Mad" Mike the Silver.
Hill X:
Whatever comes down must go up, or something like that. The Hill X course is created by modifying the Skier X course. Add a massive mogul field, double and triple hits, then ride in the reverse direction and wallah! SCOTT USA's Steve Martin, no not that Steve Martin, stalled out at the start but proceeded to go from last to Silver in one of the most incredible comebacks of the X Games. Now that's "one wild and crazy guy!"
Snow X:
Young phenom and current World Snowcross point's leader Tucker Hibbert proved that you don't have to be old enough to vote to be heard. After being stuck in last place at the start, Tucker slashed his way through the snowy moto field into second place to grab the Silver. He narrowly missed the Gold by mere seconds as time ran out.
