Flora Duffy Wins World Triathlon Series

The Bermudan crowned her stellar season with an impressive victory at the WTS Grand Final in Cozumel, Mexico. Duffy was in the lead of the overall standings of the series for almost the entire season. However, with Olympic Champion and 2nd ranked Gwen Jorgensen on the starting line, Duffy knew it would be a close call to defend the overall lead. Similar to earlier performances this year, Duffy took charge immediately after exiting the water and broke away with British athletes Jessica Learmonth and Lucy Hall. Jorgensen who completed the swim briefly after Duffy was unable to bring the early attackers back and the trio up front worked together efficiently. "Once we had a gap, I asked them whether they were willing to work together," Duffy said after the race. "I'm thankful that Lucy and Jessica were supporting the effort." After the bike split, the three escapees had gapped the main group by over 1 minute. Duffy had proven already multiple times throughout the season that she is able to post a fast run despite huge efforts on the bike. "I always hope and wish for a perfect day and a perfect day came when I needed it most – when the pressure was on," the Bermudan said after posting a run split that was even a couple seconds faster than the one of feared runner Jorgensen. With the win of the World Championships, Duffy, who's also very successful in Cross Triathlon and loves to compete in mountain bike races, celebrates her biggest success in her career.
