For Nino Schurter the 2012 season has been nothing but amazing. His performance has brought him to the top and allowed him to achieve an incredible collection of victories in a single year. Not only did he win the Swiss National Championship title but he ruled the World Cup season with four wins as well as the overall win. While doing this, he was also training mentally and physically for the 2012 Olympics in London where he showed the world what he is made of and came away with the Silver medal. For Nino this was disappointing but a true champion never stops: "After London, I fell in a big mental hole." admitted Nino. "I took it easy over the last weeks, not expecting anything. But while standing at the starting line at the Worlds I suddenly found my motivation." This motivation was exactly what Nino needed to get back on top by winning the 2012 World Championships in Leogang/Saalfelden, Austria.
Rainbow jersey, again: Nino is the new World Champion.
Looking back at one of the most intense month of his life, Nino Schurter will remember the final of his 2012 season as one of his greatest ever. Losing the gold medal on the last turn at the Olympics while he was dominating the whole season was a tough blow but after the World Championship race this past weekend, Nino left no doubt that he is currently the best athlete in Cross Country Mountain Biking. Nino competed in 15 races this season and won 11 of them.

"The World champion title is a very big gratification for me and a sweet revenge for what happened in London. Sharing that podium at the worlds with another two Swiss riders made me really happy and I am proud to be part of this great Swiss team," Nino said referring to the two Flückiger brothers who got 2nd and 3rd. Nino ruled the race from the start and only Italian Marco Aurelio Fontana was able to spend some time on his back wheel. Fontana couldn't follow Nino in the downhill in round 6 and Nino took this opportunity to widen the gap and ride solo for the last two rounds.
