GP15 MOTOCROSS: BELGIUM

Podium for Tixier and Ferrandis

Jordi Tixier and Dylan Ferrandis both finished in podium positions at the 15th round of the MX2 World Championship, claiming second and third respectively', on the rough, sandy track of Lommel (Belgium).

Jordi Tixier

With Herlings side-lined by a broken leg, the MX2 class was once again an exciting race. A group of four riders were all fighting hard to reach the podium. In the end Britain’s Max Anstie, was able to beat out the Frenchmen, Jordi Tixier and Dylan Ferrandis, to celebrate his first ever GP win. Third in the opening moto, Tixier won the second. “In the second race I told myself ‘now you have to do it’. I had a very good start and I pushed to the limit for the whole moto and now I got some very good points for the championship. Last week I won on hard pack and today I came second in the sand, so I’ve shown everyone I can ride on all kinds of surfaces” said Jordi, who is now 57 points behind Herlings in the standings, with two more GP’s (and 100 points available) to go.

Dylan Ferrandis used this GP as an opportunity to claim his third podium of the season. “I hurt my shoulder during the qualifying race, and on Sunday morning when I woke up I couldn’t move my right shoulder. We worked with Bruno Losito and the medical staff to find a solution so I could race the GP. My first start was not so bad, but when I recovered to second place the leader was out of sight. The second start was similar and I was fighting with Febvre and Anstie for second place until I lost time in a small crash; that put me back to fourth, but I could pass Febvre again to finish third,” said Ferrandis, who has been selected by the French team for the Motocross of Nations.

Steven Frossard

In the MXGP class Antonio Cairoli nearly secured another world title, wining won both races, while his main rival Jeremy Van Horebeek, struggled finishing eighth at his home GP. Clement Desalle who suffers from a broken scaphoid was there as a spectator, while Tommy Searle skipped the event due to a finger injury. Steven Frossard scored a tenth position in this MXGP class.

Calvin Vlaanderen

In the EMX2, South African, Calvin Vlaanderen captured his first ever EMX podium with a 2nd place finish. He followed up his win in the first moto with a fifth place finish in the second. In the EMX125 the young Swedish, Alvin Östlund, had a perfect weekend, winning 2 Motos and the overall win. This places him 2nd in the 2014 EMX125 Championship standings.
