Production
The production of a boot is as important as its initial design. If the manufacturing process does not meet the standard of the design, the concept and vision are compromised. With this in mind, the Genius MX Boot is meticulously produced, from the injection mold process to the assembly of the parts.
Twenty separate parts are injection molded and assembled for each boot. And since they are made of molded polymer, fewer steps are needed to assemble the boot. These pieces do not require the extensive stitching and glueing like those of the traditional leather boots. The quality is, therefore, less susceptible to issues stemming from more labor-intensive assembly processes.
All production and assembly steps have stringent quality control tests to ensure proper function and performance.

Research and Development
As protection, performance, and comfort were the three priorities in the development of the Genius Boot, the Research & Development team at Scott spent countless hours conducting and reviewing research in order to properly address these crucial issues, and bring the concept to reality.
Anthropomorphic Study
To ensure the best possible fit, Scott conducted an anthropomorphic study of the male lower leg at the University ENSCI. With a test group ranging in age from 16 to 25, each individual’s leg was scanned from just below the knee to tip of their toes. After extensive analysis of the scans, researchers were able to determine an average lower leg shape. This average shape became the basis for the internal design of the Genius Boot.
Lower Leg Trauma Study
Doctor Richard Leneuf, a former motocross rider and frequent presiding race doctor, provided critical information about common moto-related injuries. From his work investigating lower leg injuries, the Scott design team was able to identify areas of improvement to motocross boots. Of the total injuries documented in 2005, 34% involved inferior limbs, or the lower leg. Of those injuries, 23% were leg fractures, 18% were ankle fractures, and 6% were foot fractures. The remaining balance of the injuries consisted of minor sprains and other less serious injuries. Note: Since 1990, when Dr. Leneuf began collecting data, injury rates have remained remarkably consistent to the afore mentioned numbers.
Analysis of the Scott Pivot System for fatigue
At the request of Scott, DuPont™ conducted a simulated fatigue cycle test to ensure that the patented Scott Pivot System could continue to provide optimal performance after prolonged use. The test simulated average usage over a three year period and produced results indicating little reduction in support. The simulation projected a 6 to 12% deformation over the entire test cycle.
Field Testing for articulation
In order to determine the articulation required to properly perform, early designs of the boot were field-tested by a team of test riders. After considerable feedback, the Scott Pivot System was modified to allow for the needed articulation. In addition, the boot developers implemented a slight resistance to ankle articulation in order to stabilize the rider and reduce lower leg fatigue often experienced with long sessions on the motorcycle.
Re-Setting the Standard
As the sport of motocross continues to progress, so should the products that riders use. At Scott, we feel that it is our responsibility to produce the best products for the ever-evolving rider. The Genius MX Boot is the newest, most innovative product to be brought to market by Scott Motorsports. Once again, Scott has re-set the standard.

Vibram® Impact Sole Pad:
The Genius’ replaceable Impact Sole Pad is molded from a proprietary Vibram® long-wear rubber compound. Vibram’s testing shows a 300% increase in durability over traditional soles.

Grip Strip:
Each Genius Boot is outfitted with a strip of pliable heat resistant rubber on the inside of the boot cuff. This feature allows riders to “grab” the bike with their legs.

Brake Transfer Pad:
The right foot of the Genius Boot is equipped with a durable pad that improves brake lever sensitivity. The pad transfers brake lever pressure to small ridges in the interior of the boot, allowing the rider’s foot to feel the lever.

Internal Bootie:
The internal bootie of the Genius MX Boot features a custom insole, adjustable fitting pads, and a thermo-shaped tongue. An external rubber outsole forms around the base of the footpad, increasing durability and reducing movement inside the outer boot.

Shin Guard:
The Genius Boot also features a patented injection molded guard at shin level to protect the lower leg from impacts, roost, and other unplanned obstacles. It is adjustable so that it can positioned to provide the highest level of protection for each individual rider.

Strap and Buckles:
Like the outer construction of the Genius Boot, the straps are comprised of molded polyurethane. As well, they feature an incremental ratcheting system for strong, yet precise, adjustment. The buckles are produced from sturdy aircraft aluminum and they lock in place firmly when closed.

Sure-Feel Shifter Pad:
An external pad constructed of Hytrel® polyurethane is positioned on the shifting area of the top of the boot. The pad transfers shifter lever pressure through ridges on the interior of the boot, allowing the rider to feel the shifter without compromising protection of the foot.

Upper Shell Liner:
This removable and washable liner with medium compression administers a comfortable and contour-adjusting fit.

Polymer Protection:
The Genius MX Boot is constructed of injection molded pieces of Hytrel® and polyurethane. Both of these materials are characterized by their durability and impact resistance. Using these materials in the construction allows the Genius MX Boot to protect the lower leg and foot to a level unreachable by its leather counterparts.

Scott Pivot System:
The ingenious Scott Pivot System allows the boot to flex while retaining its solid construction. The hinge design compliments the polymer materials, resolving the performance/protection paradox. A boot must provide movement and flex while maintaining solid protection and support. Until now, one factor had to be sacrificed in order to address the other. The Genius MX Boot allows movement without compromising rigidity and strength.

EN 13634 LEVEL 2:
The Genius MX boot is the only off road boot to achieve a level 2 when tested according to EN 13634 Normative standards. A Level 2 is the highest rating possible. EN 13634 is a norm developed to evaluative the protective capabilities of footwear. In rigorous testing by the CEN, the Genius MX boot complied with or exceed all the necessary standards for this rating.

"I bought the Genius boots a month ago and FINALLY got to wear them out at the track. The boots fit perfect even though the booty feels small. I have heard that people had to order a size larger but I just think that they think it’s too small because of the booty. On the first lap around the track I noticed that the inside of the boots are quite chunky and it forced my feet towards the outer part of pegs if I had the pegs in the arch of my foot. I went back in kind of disappointed and took a short rest. I went back out and thought maybe things would be better if I ride on the balls of my feet so I tried that. It worked! It seemed that the chunky parts fit in more and I could actually grab the bike with my legs on jumps. Now, I know that's the way you're supposed to ride but I guess the Genius forces you to ride the right way. Thanks for forcing me to ride the right way! Last September I saw a video on a French website featuring the Scott Genius boot. I immediately wanted to try this boot. On my first ride wearing the boots I noticed the boot was light and I didn’t have to change my shifter or brake lever settings. When I first saw the Genius boot, I thought it was something from the future! When I wore it for the first time, I could not believe how light it was and how well it fit. It was really a good feeling.

The only adjustment I made to my bike when I started using the Genius was to raise the shift lever slightly. Other than this small change, I felt comfortable really quickly. The sole pad is working great on the foot pegs and the shifter and brake pads give me the perfect feeling.
I was also impressed by the “ready to race” aspect, no break in period, it is awesome!
When riding supercross, I had some pretty short landing on big jumps this made me realized how the boots protect my ankles, they definitely work.
When the riding session is over, I just have to clean the boot with a pressure washer and air dry them. No need to worry about the maintenance!
