Kienle Second at City Triathlon Heilbronn

23 Juni 2014

One week after his success at Challenge Kraichgau, Sebastian Kienle claimed another podium spot at the famous City Triathlon in Heilbronn, Germany.

The Heilbronn City Triathlon features a slightly shorter race distance compared to classic middle distance triathlons: a 2k swim is followed by a 70k bike and a 15k run segment. While the swim leg remains almost identical to a half-distance race, the bike and run leg are shortened. Although these race characteristics do not perfectly match Sebastian Kienle's strong bike-run abilities, he still set out to win the famous German race. The eventual winner Dreitz led Kienle by 2 minutes after the swim leg. The two minutes proved to be too much of a handicap for Kienle. Dreitz showed a strong bike performance and was able to maintain the gap at almost two minutes. Although Kienle scored the fastest run of the day, he wasn't able to catch Dreitz on the closing 15k run. Given the shortened bike and run leg at the City Triathlon and Kienle's effort at Challenge Kraichgau only one week before, Kienle's performance is more than solid and proves that he's on the right track for the IM European Championships in Frankfurt on July 6.
