Successful Premier of the Ultraks in Zermatt
After a large scale change in weather, and a 12 hour snow dump in Zermatt, the organizers of the Ultraks Skialp decided to shoten the course for safety reasons. With a very high avalanche risk it wasn’t possible to hike up to the top of Gornergrat paradise. Finally, all of the competitors started at Zermatt’s Bahnhofplatz, passed the Furri from where the climb up the very steep Schweigmatten began. The first to reach the finish line at the Riffelalp would do so 2222 meters above sea level.
Around 50cm of fresh powder made the race even harder for all participants. But for the local Martin Anthamtten and his team this wasn’t a problem. Martin would finish in first with an excellent time of 38 minutes. They showed up and delivered a great performance climbing 600 vertical meters in less than 40 minutes.
This was a spectacular show and, one that SCOTT Sports is very proud to be a part of.
Now we are looking forward to the Ultraks Trail event on the 24th of April, once again in Zermatt. Let’s get ready for the next round!
