Athlete talk

What is your all-time favourite riding destination?

I hate to be corny but its very rarely about the destination/location but always about the people sharing the ride with. Last years moment of ‘zen’ came whilst KOM’ing a technical descent in the dolomites with two friends in perfect synchronised harmony.

What are you excited about with your partnership with SCOTT?

SCOTT give me the space to express myself creatively outside of my daily work. Their product and design team consistently create what, in my professional opinion, are some of the most well rounded and beautiful bikes. Being able to ride, customise and race them is a pure pleasure. What better canvas and vehicle to explore the world on.

What does "No Shortcuts" mean to you?

A reminder that through discipline you find freedom.

What do you get up to when you’re not out riding?

I try to paint everyday. It’s a form of active meditation but also a way for me to challenge myself daily. I have a very structured and considered way of working and the free flowing random nature of my painting counteracts and balances this for me. It’s the method to my madness.

Outside of cycling, where do you draw inspiration from?

I’m lucky and proud to have some very inspirational friends and people around me. I’m inspired by my friends who are professional athletes to push myself physically and competitively. I’m inspired by my peers in the design and fashion industry to create relentlessly and with pure intent and I’m inspired by my loved ones to work every day towards being a better version of myself.

You’re stranded on a desert island. What three things would you want with you?

Bill Murray, a Staffordshire terrier and an endless supply of avocados.

If you could put up a billboard to be seen by countless people every day, what would you put on it?

Kern and earn
