Vialle Crowned 2022 MX2 World Champion!
In what was a thrilling finale to the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship season, the 18th and final round at the Grand Prix of Turkey proved to be a nail-biting end to the MX2 championship, as the title fight went down to the wire between SCOTT athlete, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle and Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jago Geerts.
An intense second race saw Vialle secure his second title in the MX2 class after a hard-fought battle with Geerts. The pair entered the final race of 2022 separated by just one point, with Vialle having the upper hand. Despite plenty of tense moments however, and Geerts’ best effort, Vialle was able to get the job done and celebrate in style with the perfect 1-1 scorecard.
I was a fantastic season for the French rider who, whilst further proving his dominance in this class, also won his third consecutive FOX Holeshot Award. Throughout the season he acheived 17 moto wins from 36, 10 Grands Prix from 18 and 15 podium appearances.
In the end it was a perfect ending to the season for Vialle, who will leave the world of MXGP next season to contest the AMA Supercross and Motocross 250MX/SX competition in the USA. We wish him the best of luck!
Tom Vialle: "It was a great one. I felt good actually and then after two laps, I passed Jago on the start straight. Then Jago was pushing a lot, he passed me two times but I passed him back and then I had a little tip over, and I crashed… When I crashed, I thought, this is it, it’s finished, because we were both so fast, but when I saw that Jago crashed with me, I thought "no way" this is not possible and I managed to get going quickly. It was crazy and I was lucky there a little bit, but that is part of the game. It was a long race eventually, I was watching the clock a lot. I am happy, it was a tough season and to finish like this is so nice”.
