AROUND THE WORLD WITH SCOTT ONROAD PART 3

03 March 2017

We are delighted to accompany Mirka and Vojta from Czech Republic with our SCOTT Dualraid DP and Ergonimic Pro DP on their motorbike trip around the world. In June and August 2016 we already brought some news about their adventurous journey and experience with our SCOTT gear. As we are constantly following them and want to keep our readers up to date, our third news is ready now.

Where are you right now?

We are in Punta Arenas, Chile and we are heading north on the famous road Caretera Austral soon.

What happened since we wrote our last news about you when you were in Kyrgyzstan?

With all the things that happened, your last news seems to be like 2 years ago (laughing).

Well, after Kyrgyzstan we traveled through the Russian Altai to Mongolia and passed Lake Baikal which is incredibly nice in autumn. As we were behind schedule at that time we decided to head straight to Vladivostok. However, what turned out as a “problem” was that there is a motorcycle club in almost every city. We stopped many times and had a lot of vodka with local bikers. (It was great fun) Because of that we crossed Siberia quite late and sometimes it was freezing even during the day. We were really lucky with the weather though.

Once arrived in Vladivostok, we shipped our bikes in a container to San Antonio, Chile. In the meantime we flew to Japan and Thailand to enjoy some nice weather.

Here in South America, we were heading south on Ruta 40 and Ruta 3 to Ushuaia, Argentina. We spent several days camping in the wilderness and even saw orcas.

Are you still constantly travelling with the SCOTT Dualraid and Ergonomic Gear or did you also try other gear in between?

We still travel with SCOTT gear and have absolutely no reason to change it.

As you travel through many different climate zones: How does the SCOTT gear work for you in different weather conditions?

The gear is performing as we expected – great! To be honest, there is absolutely no perfect gear in the world for all the weather we travel through. Sometimes you wish to wear no gear at all when it’s hot and sometimes you want plenty of warm clothes when it’s freezing. However, SCOTT gear is coming close to being perfect for all conditions. Thanks to ventilation, wind proof layers and rain suits it is fine to ride in hot summer temperatures as well as in freezing Siberia.

Vojta you just recently got a new Dualraid to use during your trip! How do you feel about it?

I was very curious to see the new look and was surprised about how many changes have been made, especially small details. Some of them I did not like that much on the old gear and now I got the improvements with the new Dualraid. Overall the gear looks good, I like to wear it and what is important - it works the way I need it.

What can you say in comparison to the old model?

Using magnets for closing and opening the vents help a lot. Also very important: The ventilation on the pants is much, much better. In general: Small details, new design - this is what I like!

What are your upcoming travel plans?

In the close future we will do some hiking in National Parks across Patagonia and stop for a while in Santiago. Then we will head north to Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia.

How long will your trip finally take you?

Initial plans were to travel for 1.5 years but now we are thinking about extending the trip. We have some ideas already but not exact timing yet.

Do you sometimes miss home and the normal life back in Czech Republic?

On one hand we miss home, family, friends and our mum’s cuisine but on the other hand we like being on the road more and more every day thanks to meeting great people and other Czechs. We really had good times with them.

My last question: Would you do this trip around the world again? If yes why? And would you make things differently?

My answer a few months ago would have been yes and without any changes. But being on the road longer and meeting other travelers and their motorcycles/cars/motorhomes, we are thinking about some things we would change. It is not easy though when you left home already with all the stuff but we have some crazy ideas already. Overall this trip was the best decision we could ever make.
