IAM Cycling finds success at Bayern-Rundfahrt

27 May 2013

Far from ideal weather conditions have not prevented the IAM Cycling team from putting in a performance that raided the spoils offered on the final day of the Bayern-Rundfahrt.  With occasional rain and strong wind challenging the riders on the 169.8 kilometer trek from Kelheim to Nüremberg, the riders got on with the business without a fuss.

A temperature hovering around a chilly 5 degrees Celcius did not help matters.  But once it came to the end of the finishing straight, the victory went to Heinrich Haussler.  Already having taken 3rd in Kelheim on Friday, the IAM Cycling puncheur today found the opening he needed to grab the victory bouquet, his first as a member of the IAM Cycling team.

“This time I am really happy.  I managed to reach my top speed even after such a tough day.  This bodes well for my chances at the Tour of Switzerland, which is certainly a top goal for me.”  Stefan Denifl also ended the day on a high since he was able to retain his King of the Mountains jersey, in spite of not having had to score any additional points on this demanding stage.

Haussler after taking victory

“I didn’t actually score any points today, but neither did my closest opponent.  Winning this distinctive jersey will give me confidence to continue training for the Tour of Switzerland with more confidence.”

With these two victories, the IAM Cycling team was also able to celebrate its first place in the overall team classification.  This additional reward and satisfaction for the whole team and its two directeurs reinforces the feeling that the entire group is working very well together, particularly considering they won similar classifications at the Four Days of Dunkirk and the Tour of Norway.

As if that was not enough, the team also placed two of its riders in the top 10 of the general classification with Martin Elmiger (9th) and Marcel Wyss (7th).

The latter will return to his home to finish his preparations for the Tour of Switzerland with a sense of accomplishment.  “It was really hard today.  I could count on the help given by Thomas Löfkvist to stay with the main group.  I was really frozen and already had lost three pounds at the Tour of Romandie.  I don’t have many fat stores to resist weather like this.  Now I need to concentrate on keeping my form and not getting sick.”
