MXGP OF GERMANY 2015

23 June 2015

GP10: Teutschenthal

Jordi Tixier back in the top five of the MX2 series

Jordi Tixier narrowly missed the final podium this weekend in Germany. The reigning World Champion finished the tenth round of the FIM MX2 World Championship in fourth position, just ahead of Julien Lieber who had his best performance since the opening GP of the season in Qatar.MXGP-Germany-TixierTeutschenthal, in former East Germany, is a regular venue for the World Championship and a track that riders are pretty familiar with. Third in the opening MX2 race, Jordi Tixier was expecting another podium result, but a late gate fall resulted in a very bad start for him and several of his rivals in race two. “Yesterday I didn’t have a good feeling with the track, but today was much better and I’m pretty happy with the result. The first race was good; I was fighting for the win during most of the race but finally Guillod passed me and I finished third. In the second moto I hit the gate together with Guillod and Petar, but I recovered to sixth despite a small crash; I just missed the podium by a few points, but most importantly is that the speed is there. The track was difficult here, and again some riders got injured. I think that the organisers have to work on the track preparation,” said Jordi in reference of the injuries sustained this weekend by Herlings, Tonkov and Covington in the MX2 class, and also Nagl the leader of the MXGP series. Fifth overall behind Tixier, Belgian Julien Lieber, who has been confirmed next season as a factory MX2 Yamaha rider, was pleased to be back in the top five. “Not too bad today. I had two great results and was consistent. It was easier with better starts! I’m happy that I have been able to go back and start training with Yves [Demaria] in the past two weeks. I want to continue with the consistency now and improve my results further. My leg injury has been getting better and better and this is another positive point,” related Julien.MXGP-Germany-LieberIn the MXGP class Clement Desalle was not racing this weekend, as the factory Suzuki rider needed some rest to solve his physical troubles. Series leader Max Nagl damaged an ankle during the qualifying race on Saturday, and the new leader of the series is rookie Romain Febvre, who captured his third consecutive GP win this weekend. With a seventh place, Shaun Simpson consolidate his seventh position in the standings and remains the best ‘non factory’ rider in the main class.

Next Grand Prix will take place in Uddevalla (Sweden) on July 4-5.
