MOTOCROSS MXGP OF INDONESIA 2017
GP2: Indonesia - MXGP win for Simpson, MX2 red plate for Lieber
The 2017 FIM Motocross World Championship came back in Indonesia twenty years after the last 250 GP, but unfortunately during the monsoon period. The event was disturbed by the weather conditions, but it was a successful event for the Scott Athletes. We got one MXGP win and are now also leading the MX2 class.

Scottish Shaun Simpson had a tough Grand Prix one week ago in Qatar, but the Indonesian mud and ruts were not at all a problem for the Yamaha rider who won the single MXGP heat of the weekend as race two was cancelled by the race direction. “Fantastic, but a little surreal. It was nice to get off to a good start. I didn't go out on the sighting lap so I was a little unsure but I talked to the team manager, Louis, and he told me about some good lines so I had a good idea about where I needed to go. I started sixth or seventh and picked off a couple of guys and I knew that once I got past Tim Gajser for fifth that I could get to the front," said a delighted Shaun. Third of the Grand Prix, Clement Desalle is the single rider to score two MXGP podiums this season so the Belgian is now second in the standings.
In the MX2 class Jeremy Seewer claimed his first ever GP win, while Pauls Jonass had a tough weekend with a 14th position in race one and a DNF in race two. Third of the GP, Belgian Julien Lieber repeats his performance from Qatar and is the new leader of the class on his private KTM. “I couldn’t imagine to have such a great day, as I had the last gate on the grid! But I rode consistently in both races, didn’t crashed too much and that was the key to be on the podium. I again had good speed, but with a small crash early in the first race I had to come back from nearly last to third. The track was worse for the second race, but I managed to get a fourth and now we’ll try to keep this red plate for a few GP’s” he revealed.
The series make a break next weekend, before moving to Argentina for the third consecutive year.
