Robin Gemperle takes solace anywhere
Robin Gemperle, an ultra-distance athlete and passionate gravel rider, was setting off for his annual Holiday ride from his hometown up to the snow and festivities in Klosters, Switzerland. The ride has become a part of a tradition, and after the great 2024 season, he decided to try the range of his Solace Gravel eRIDE.
“Riding to Klosters has become somewhat of a staple during my holiday season. In summer, the route is quite common in order to reach the Alps and marks the start of many bike-packing trips for cyclists living in my area. It’s therefore a more unique experience doing it during cold & short winter days, where especially the cycleway along Walensee is quite spectacular due to the surrounding feeling even rougher than on a warm sunny day.” – Robin
The ride started in Aarau, at Robin’s favorite coffee shop. He got a quick wake-up coffee before heading out on his 190 km ride with the Holiday celebrations waiting for him.
The ride has previously been done on his road bike, but by bringing the Solace Gravel eRIDE, he had the opportunity to explore more gravel roads and never be limited by elevation or climb incline.
Riding from my hometown to Klosters turned out to be way nicer when doing it offroad and with a little bit of e-support: the known fun of long-distance gravel riding, paired with the possibility to get in a high quality training ride due to the climbs being flattened out by the supporting motor suited exactly what I was looking for during that time of the year.
The Solace Gravel eRIDE is an electric gravel bike, based on the Addict Gravel platform and has the same agile and quick handling and response, just gives some extra assistance when needed. For the 190km of riding, Robin used 360Wh of battery and two range extenders of each 160Wh. Watch Robin’s holiday ride and learn how he uses his Solace during his off-season training.
