MOTOCROSS MXGP OF LATVIA 2015
GP12: LATVIA
A sixth position for Frossard.
Coming back to the Kawasaki Racing Team just a few days before the 12th round of the FIM Motocross World Championship, Steven Frossard put in two strong rides in Kegums (Latvia) to finish sixth overall in the MXGP class.
Moving from his former team to KRT, Steven Frossard didn’t need much time to feel like home. With an sixth and a eighth position the Frenchman executed two safe races on a rough and tough track. This secured his best result of the season and will prepare him for the remaining GP’s, where he aims to do much better. “I already have a good feeling on the bike, even though I didn’t ride it before coming here, so far at the first race back I’m happy with sixth overall. On Saturday I quickly felt confident on the bike, but Philippaerts hit me during the Qualifying race so I had a very bad gate for the GP races. It was not that easy to start from the fifteenth gate and today, I missed some rhythm during the first few laps and in the second moto I felt sick, so physically I was not at my best. I missed the top five but I’m happy; now we have time to do some more testing to prepare for the hard pack of Loket,” said Frossard. For the first time in his career Dutch Glenn Coldenhoff enjoyed the MXGP winning celebration, as he dominated Frenchman Gautier Paulin and Romain Febvre to win his first ever MXGP. Shaun Simpson scored and eleventh position to remain seventh in the standings, while Clement Desalle stayed home to prepare his comeback for the next round of the series.
With a bad gate on the starting line following a crash in the qualifying race, Jordi Tixier knew that it would be another tough weekend and the reigning World Champion couldn’t do better than seventh at the Grand Prix. This calls also had an unusual podium, with Max Anstie winning his first GP of the season – the second of his career – in front of local hero Pauls Jonass and Finn Harri Kullas. Missing the event after his crash in Sweden, Jeffrey Herlings is still leading the series and is expected to be back for the next round in two weeks-time.
Next Grand Prix will take place in Loket (Czech Republic) on July 25-26
