Athlete talk

When and how did you start mountain biking?

I started mountain biking when i was six years old. At the beginning i just rode the trails in Winterthur, later I became a member of VC St.Gallen.

Who was/are your idols on the trails?

My idol from an athletic point of view is the sprinter Noah Lyles. For me, he embodies the mentality and self-confidence that are very desirable as an athlete.

What does mountain biking mean to you personally?

For me personally, biking is an escape from everyday life. It may sound strange, but the knowledge that i'm pushing my body brings me a certain peace of mind. The sport has also awakened my ambition and I love to compete with others.

What excites you most about biking?

What I love most about the sport is its versatility. You can ride on many different surfaces and they all require different skills. The sport is just as much fun outside the competitions as it is in the races, I like that balance.

How do you combine family/friends and your job?

During the season, my schedule is sometimes very busy with races, so I have to miss out on some get-togethers with my friends. Nevertheless, I always find time to socialize, and that's no problem, especially outside the racing season.

What does "No Shortcuts" mean to you?

For me, "No Shortcuts" means that there is no way around hard work if you want to achieve your goals as an athlete. Everyone has to find out for themselves how they can make the most progress, but the path always leads to a large investment of time and energy.
