Lake Elsinore Moto Vision

28 August 2013

The last and final round of the 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Series took place in sunny California last weekend at Lake Elsinore MX.  As both titles had already been decided one week prior in Utah, riders were eager to snag a season-ending best ride before going into the off season.

450MX Class

Tyla Rattray

SCOTT athlete Tyla Rattray came out swinging in California, determined to get a top 5 to finish out the season.  In the first moto, Tyla rode hard and consistent to cross the finish line in 7th.  In the second moto, Rattray found himself running closer to the front of the pack, finishing one place better in 6th.  7-6 moto finishes were good enough to earn him 5th overall on the day.  Rattray finished out the season listed 12th overall in the series point standings.

Trey Canard

SCOTT athlete Trey Canard had a solid first moto, finishing 4th after battling his way forward.  Trey's second moto found him further back in the pack but he was still able to work his way up to 10th and with 4-10 moto scores, he earned 6th overall on the day.  With that, Trey finished out the season a respectable 4th in the season point standings.

Andrew Short

Andrew Short had a good ride in California and snagged yet another top finish.  Short got a top ten start in the first moto and quickly went to work moving his way forward.  A last lap pass on Rattray would give the crafty Vet 6th in moto one.  The second moto found Short further back after the start and once again he put his head down and worked his way forward.  Short was able to work his way up to 12th by the end of the moto and finished 9th overall for the day.  Short ended his outdoor campaign 7th overall in the point standings.

Phil Nicoletti

At the start of the first 450MX moto, SCOTT athlete Phil Nicoletti found himself just inside the top 20.  Phil went to work and passed his way into 15th by the moto's end.  In the second moto, Nicoletti had some troubles that relegated him to 37th.  15-37 moto scores netted Nicoletti 19th overall and he would end up 14th overall in the 450MX point standings.

Zack Freeberg

Zack Freeburg has been riding solidly this season and has continued to surprise many by posting top 20 finishes in the stacked 450 class.  Lake Elsinore was no exception as the rookie put in 22-16 moto scores to earn 20th overall.

250MX Class

Blake Baggett

The 2012 defending series champion Blake Baggett has had an up and down 2013 outdoor season.  After suffering a wrist injury during the supercross season, Baggett set his sights on the outdoors with hopes of defending his 2012 championship.  It took Blake a few races to get back up to speed but as the season progressed, so did his results.  In California, Blake had every intention of winning the final round.  Unfortunately a mechanical issue would prevent him from finishing the first moto and he was listed in 33rd.  With nothing to lose, Baggett put the hammer down in the second moto and quickly put himself into the lead.  Baggett would go on to win the moto but an unfortunate penalty while jumping on a red cross flag penalized him to second place.  Even with 33-2 moto scores, Baggett still earned 9th overall on the day and finished the season 4th in the 250MX point standings.

Martin Davalos

SCOTT athlete Martin Davalos rode well at Lake Elsinore, snagging yet another top ten finish.  In the first moto, Davalos went down while battling with teammate Adam Cianciarulo and had to charge from way back to capture 11th.  In the second moto, Davalos rode strong and finished 9th overall.  11-9 moto scores were good enough for 10th overall and with that Davalos ended the season 15th in the 250MX point standings.

Justin Hill

250MX class rookie Justin Hill had a strong season with multiple top ten finishes to his name.  Looking to end the season on a high note, Hill rocketed off the gate in moto one, rounding the first turn just inside the top 15.  Hill would ride consistent and found himself settling into 13th, where he would ultimately finish the moto.  In the next moto, Hill got a better jump off the gate and rounded the first turn in 10th.  Hill would put charge forward to 8th by the moto's end, giving him 11th overall for the day.  Hill finishes his rookie outdoor campaign 12th in the 250MX point standings.

SCOTT athlete Darryn Durham rode consistently in California, earning a top 15 finish.  Durham took 15th in the first moto.  In the second moto, he got a slow jump off the gate and would have to battle through the field 13th.  15-13 moto scores earned Darryn 14th overall for the day and 14th overall in the 250MX class season point standings.

Adam C

Coming off an impressive finish one week ago in Utah, 250MX class rookie Adam Cianciarulo looked to carry some momentum into the final round.  Unfortunately, a crash in the first moto relegated him to 14th and would prevent him from racing the second moto.  Even with a DNS in the second moto, Adam would earn 18th overall for the day with 14-40 moto scores.  After missing the first few rounds, Cianciarulo still managed 16th overall in the 250MX season point standings.

Ryan Zimmer

Privateer Ryan Zimmer had a solid last round in California, posting a top 20 finish.  In moto one Zimmer would start just outside the top 25 and worked his way up to 20th by the checkered flag.  Zimmer would work his forward in the second moto as well, moving from 20th to 16th.  25-16 moto finishes were good enough for Zimmer to earn 19th overall.

That's a wrap on the 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.  Next up is the Monster Energy Cup which will take place October 19 at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas.
