After having won her first world title in 2016, Duffy dominated 2017 to make it back-to-back success in Rotterdam this weekend. She once more proved to be the best woman in ITU Triathlon by winning the series with maximum points- 5200 of them to be exact.
Flora Duffy’s season was as perfect as they come. She became only the second woman to have won six races in a season. She also recorded the widest winning margin in series history by 1min 51sec to second place in Yokohama in May, and followed that with the widest winning margin in a sprint race in Hamburg by 31 sec. Now she has also added a second World Triathlon Series title to her impressive palmares, which also includes three X-terra World Titles.
After a great swim Duffy soon found herself in a breakaway group of three on the bike. Being the strongest biker of the triathlon scene she soon made her compatriots suffer on the bike and extended the lead to the rest. It was the perfect set-up for Flora, who was still quite fresh from the bike ride to be able to hammer away on the run. She took off once on her feet and ran to her second World Title.
“I am pretty reluctant to ever say that you can have a perfect race, but I would say today went just how I wanted it to. I had a great swim and set myself up perfectly for the bike. I tried to play it safe on the bike because there is so much on the line and then on the run I felt pretty strong, so I wanted to go for it. Yeah, it was a great day. I just try to make it a swim, bike and run. Not a swim, get through the bike and then onto the run. So maybe it is forcing everyone to be really good at all three, but that is how I want to race a triathlon, I just love to race,” a delighted Flora said after the race.
