Delphine (Fien) Byl

Date of birth : 30th March 1986

Hometown : Innsbruck, Austria

Interests:

Biking, skiing, fitness, dancing (hip-hop and modern-jazz)

Short biography:

I am 26 years old and I come from Sleidinge, a small village in the north of Belgium, near Gent. Better said: right in the middle of Flatland! Until I moved to Innsbruck with my boyfriend, I had only known road biking. Strangely enough, the wind in Belgium always blows against you (is this only my opinion?), which made the whole thing particularly boring to me!

My motto? “Go with the flow and smile”. I was really enthusiastic as I discovered mountain biking in Innsbruck. I have been riding for 5 years now and my passion for this sport keeps growing every day. The SCOTT Contessa Team as well as the Flow Sister crew surely played an important part in this love story… It is so great to ride with girls!

Sport has always been very important in my family and I grew up with this spirit and value. I used to spend a lot of time in nature with my 4 sisters and at the age of 6 I started skiing. Later, I focused on rope skipping and dancing, which I still practice regularly in winter, when not big powder skiing! For me it is very important to compensate the job with physical activity. As a matter of fact, I work as an interior designer and therefore am sitting 40 hours a week in front of my PC. So I really need this work-life balance.

I feel very honored to be part of the SCOTT Contessa Team, especially because we all share the same values in life. It is always a pleasure for me to transmit a little bit of SCOTT wherever I go, may it be in Germany, in Switzerland or in Austria of course!

Riders's Talk

How and when did you start biking?

I discovered mountain biking when I arrived in Innsbruck in 2008.

Who were/are your idols on and off the trails?

My idols are all my friends that made and still make me love mountain biking!

What does biking mean to you personally?

As an interior designer, I am constantly thinking about my job, whether planning a new project or simply entering a room and spotting an interesting material or piece of furniture. But once I am in nature, I can disconnect completely. I like the effort it takes you to ride to the top of a mountain so that you can fully enjoy the ride down. For me, it is the perfect balance. Mountain biking gives me a lot of strength and makes me feel alive.

What aspect of biking thrills you the most?

I love discovering new trails and being able to ride tricky sections. This is also why I bought a mountain bike, back in the days. But the best feeling for me is to arrive at the top of a mountain and contemplate the landscape around me.

How do you manage to combine family/friends and job?

To be honest, I have no idea. But when you do what you love, it is possible to combine many things in life.
