Q&A with Karen and Holger, our MTB parents
When did your kids get into biking and how?
Our Kids started with walk bikes, and then slowly they moved on to kid’s bikes with pedals and in between we took them on rides with our “single trailer” and the streamliner. Our son started on a real 20” mountain bike at age 6, since then he’s been hooked. Both kids love jumping and descending on trails, they are not much into the uphills, yet.
What are your pro tips for motivating your kids?
The most important is to not place too much pressure on them. Let them play and soon they will discover that a mountain bike means freedom.
How did your kids benefit from MTB in terms of health and spending time in nature?
Cycling is a great workout, even if you just jump around at the local pump track. It gets you outside, and yes on a mountain bike it is easy to explore nature and the great outdoors- it never gets boring and you can expand your reach.
Why do you believe mountain biking is one of the best sports for every kid?
It’s fun, and they are outdoors so there is no need for a gaming consoles.
What tip do you have for parents who want their kid to start mountain biking?
Start slowly, and try to get the right equipment, your kids will have way more fun with the right brakes and the right bike.
