Third MXGP win for Clement Desalle

Winner of his third GP in Saint Jean d’Angely, Clement Desalle has had a successful month of May. Having won five of the last six MXGP heats he is now only twenty points behind Cairoli in the series. With another MX2 podium, Arnaud Tonus consolidates his second position in the standings.

In both races Clement Desalle had the same strategy: a good start, and pressuring Cairoli, who grabbed both holeshots. Twice the Belgian gained the lead when the Italian made a mistake, claiming two important wins for the championship. “It’s always great to win, I saw after the qualification moto that it would be very complicated to pass here and the start would be very important. In both motos I tried to stay with Cairoli, my plan was to stay as close to him as I could until the end of the race and it worked out like this in both motos. It is a really great feeling that the strategy worked. I try to improve each year and to be better and I’m happy today that it worked out. It was easy to hit stones and make errors. You have to focus so much on a track like this and it is not hard to lose concentration, especially when you are pushing at the front. It was an intense few laps in both motos and I’m definitely very happy. I would like to dedicate this win to my grandfather who passed away two years ago yesterday and there are still some important memories for me.” Steven Frossard narrowly missed the podium, finishing once more in fourth overall; the Frenchman delivered an impressive first moto, coming back from twentieth to sixth, and then scored a strong fourth position in the second race. He is now sixth in the standing.

Once more Jeffrey Herlings won the MX2 race, and once more Arnaud Tonus stands on the second step of the podium, after finishing both races in second position. Jordi Tixier was pleased to collect his first ever podium in his national Grand Prix, finishing in third position and coming closer to the third rank in the standings.

In the European 125 race, French Dan Houzet claimed his first ever podium, finishing in second place behind German Brian Hsu. Winner of the second heat, David Herbreteau is fourth in the standings behind Swedish Alvin Ostlund.
