MXGP OF GREAT BRITAIN 2015

27 May 2015

GP7: Great Britain

Podiums for Desalle and Tixier

Clement Desalle and Jordi Tixier both finished with podium result this weekend in Matterley Basin, (Great Britain) home of the seventh round of the FIM Motocross World Championship.

The MXGP riders had a tough day in Matterley, as the first heat was red flagged after the accident of Italian David Guarneri for safety reasons. After already racing 15 minutes the riders had to restart the moto, adding up to one and a half races! Clement Desalle was the main loser as he was clearly leading the moto when the race was interrupted; runner up of the first race, and later of the second one behind Romain Febvre, Clement finished the GP in second position behind Cairoli and reduced to four points gap with the World Championship leader Max Nagl. “My goal is of course to win races and the championship, I like to win but this year I just got one heat win so I’m a little bit frustrated! I was leading the first race when they stopped the race, and when we started again I lost all the advantage of my race; in the US in a similar case you start at the positions you had before the red flag, maybe it would be good to think about it as it’s frustrating to lose everything… In the second heat I struggled to pass Simpson, and then I didn’t have the best lines on some sections, so Romain (Febvre) passed me” explained the Suzuki rider. Local hero Shaun Simpson got his best result of the season with a sixth overall, after leading a few laps in the second race in an incredible atmosphere, with so many British fans attending the GP.

In the MX2 class Jordi Tixier got another podium, his fourth consecutive of the season. He is back in sixth position in the series despite having ridden one GP less than his rivals, and is only twenty-four points from the series podium. “It’s my fourth consecutive podium and I’m happy with that, even if the result is not what I was expecting, as I could do better. In the first race my start was not so good and it took me a while to find a good rhythm; in the second I was in third, close to the leaders at the beginning of the race, but then the track became drier and both Jeffrey (Herlings) and Valentin (Guillod) were able to go faster. We still need to work for the win and next weekend it will be a pleasure for me to race in France with the number one plate on a track, which is new for everybody” said Jordi. Teammates Thomas Covington and Petar Petrov (who is replacing Dylan Ferrandis for the rest of the season, as the young Frenchman underwent surgery to repair damaged knee ligaments) scored a ninth and a tenth position.
