Velo Editors' Pick: Solace 15 Disc

The editors at Velo magazine have earned a reputation for one of the most thorough bike test protocols in the business. A bike selected as a coveted “Editor’s Pick” has passed a gauntlet of objective and subjective tests.  So when the Solace 15 Disc was chosen as Editor’s Pick in their recent test of endurance road bikes, the team at Scott was justifiably elated. This award is great recognition for Scott’s first effort at a disc brake equipped Solace.

The bike scored well with editors for both performance and value. “The Solace scored big with its smart spec list and compliant ride,” they wrote. As the most affordable bike in the test, the Solace 15 Disc earned the best point score for value. It also beat the other competing bikes in the “user friendliness” category, thanks to the front and rear thru-axles and flat mount disc brake fittings.

Velo editors are among very few who also test their bikes in a laboratory setting. Using their own stiffness testing protocol as well as a vertical compliance measurement, they attempt to quantify the fixed characteristics of every bike frame in a test group. The Solace 15 Disc finished first in vibration damping, offering the best measured bump absorption.

In summary, the Velo editors said it best. “Unlike other bikes in this test, the Scott had no dramatic shortcomings. Even if it did, the price tag more than makes up for them…. [it was] the most compliant by a long shot. It’s comfortable, with ample tire clearance and a ride that begs for long days and rough roads.”
