Grand Slam Saturday has now gone down in SCOTT Sports' history. Click HERE to read about Nino's Victory of the men's World Cup in Pietermaritzburg. Click HERE to read about Simon Gerrans' win of the Milan-San Remo cycling race.

The opening race of the women’s UCI XC Mountain Bike World Cup saw SCOTT Scale 29 racer Maya Wloszczowska win a hotly contested battle. The competitors took the start line near midday, but Maya didn’t seem to mind the scorching South African sun as she attacked at the front of the race. She soon found herself in the lead group with Canadians Emily Batty and Catherine Pendrel.

The trio maintained their lead over the chasers while continually testing each other. Pendrel was the first to falter, leaving Maya and Emily to sort it out in the final lap. “Emily was leading going into the final rock garden and she took my normal line. I decided to take the other line to the left and just let go of my brakes and went for it! It paid off. I got a gap right there and that was enough. I’m so proud of myself. It was the best decision I made today,” smiled Wloszczowska after the race.
