Gstaad-SCOTT Fastest in Canada

12 August 2013

It was the 23rd time that the international mountain bike circuit came to Mont Sainte Anne, where it was evident that the passion for mountain biking is still getting bigger. The organizers put a huge amount of work into the classic race track, which made it even faster than in its previous history, leading to large crowds of excited spectators. The day started with the last training session, in which Brendan Fairclough had a huge crash, scaring everybody. Luckily, Brendan got up without injury, and was definitely awake for the afternoon. Putting in an extremely wild run at the absolute limit in the finals took Brendan to 7th place.

Noel Niederberger had to deal with a few hard impacts during the week, and ultimately with some nerves after his crashes in the last few events. It was a tough mind game for him, but he managed to perform when it counted, taking third place in the Junior category!

Floriane Pugin was ready for revenge on the track that took her out of business for a while last season. She stayed focussed and smooth all week, fighting her way to third place on Sunday! Emilie Siegenthaler backed up her 4th place from last year in Mont Sainte Anne with a smooth ride, finishing right behind Floriane in 4th.

Patrick Thome unfortunately had to race exactly at the moment when a short but heavy rain shower passed through, making the track quite slippery. 24th place was less than he was hoping for, so he will be looking for revenge at the World Championships in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, in 3 Weeks. All of these results combined made the team the fastest on the weekend. Brendan and Floriane will continue the Canada trip to Whistler for the Crankworks festival. The rest of the team will train at home and prepare for the World Championships.
