Vanhoenacker runner-up at St. Pölten

26 May 2014
Vanhoenacker started the race in Austria with a solid swim that saw him about a minute behind a big group of athletes. On the bike, the Belgian set a high pace from the start and moved through the field. At kilometer 40 Vanhoenacker took the lead and constantly gained time on the chasing group. In T2, the SCOTT athlete had an advantage of 4 minutes on the chase group of seven athletes. Vanhoenacker started the run with a high pace keeping the fastest runner of the chase group, Eneko Llanos, at bay during large portions of the 21 kilometers. In the final kilometers Llanos showed his strength in the closing discipline and overtook the Belgian. With his second place finish, Vanhoenacker proves to be on the right track for the upcoming races. The strong cyclist again declared the World Championships in Hawaii in October as his major goal for the 2014 season.
