Viennot Third at ITU Long Distance World Championships

22 September 2014

Viennot chose the ITU LD World Championships as a final test for the upcoming IM World Championships in Hawaii. At the race in Weihai, China the Frenchman faced strong competition from his home country but also from other big names in the sport such as former IM World Champion Craig Alexander.

After a supar swim, Viennot was 5min off the leaders when starting the bike segment. With the third fastest time of the day for the 120 kilometer bike leg, the SCOTT athlete moved through the field and a podium finish became possible. Despite the fast bike time, Viennot ran a solid 1:16:54 over the closing 20 kilometers and secured third place behind his fellow countrymen Billard and Sudrie.

The French dominance at the ITU Long Distance World Championship doesn't come as a surprise. In France, the ITU LD format that combines a 4k swim, 120k bike and 20k run is a common race distance.
