What does it take to prevail at Paris-Roubaix?

04 April 2012
As one of the hardest races in the world looms, GreenEDGE chooses the perfect balance of high performance and comfort: the SCOTT CR1.

With a history dating back to 1896, Paris Roubaix is one of the oldest and most prestigious races in the world. The toughest of all the spring Classics, it’s famous for its dangerous cobblestone roads that challenge the riders and their bikes. The total length of 257.5 km requires athletes to give everything they have and that their bikes be in perfect condition, ready for a beating. It’s no surprise that this race has become known as the Hell of the North and thatit has gained the reputation as one of the most challenging and exciting races in the world. The upcoming 2012 race will boast 27 cobbled sections, leaving the riders with only 51.5 km of paved road to get ahead. GreenEdge is ready with a strong rider list and the best bike for the job, the SCOTT CR1.

Simply double wrapping bar tape isn’t enough to provide the damping properties SCOTT was after. Many manufacturers have tried hokey solutions in the quest for the perfect ‘Hell of the North’ machine, but we chose engineering. Suspension units have been tried and ultimately relegated from competition, rubber widgets have been craftily placed in supposed ‘flex zones’, but only when carbon is developed to it’s potential can true compliance be balanced with the high performance demands of the Pro Peloton.

SCOTT are The Carbon Experts and worldwide leaders in carbon bicycle technology and we’ve designed the compliance INTO the structure itself. The CR1 frameset, featuring SDS, combined with a special wheel and tire set will deliver maximum comfort, compliance and performance without compromise in lateral stiffness.

SCOTT CR1 SDS Technology

The engineering embodied in CR1, producing a more comfortable roubaix ride.

SDS minimizes high frequency vibration from the road, enabling a damping effect without losing performance. Scott has engineered a balance of vertical compliance and lateral stiffness in both the rear triangle and the fork:
• Vertical compliance is a measure of how smoothly a bike rides. By maximizing vertical compliance, SDS cancels road vibrations, increasing rider confidence, stability and comfort.
• Lateral stiffness correlates to responsiveness during sprinting, acceleration, and climbing.
