Duffy and Paterson make it 1-2 at XTERRA Worlds!

02 November 2015

Flora Duffy concluded a stellar season by defending her XTERRA World Champion title on Maui (HI). The Bermuda-born triathlete proved her versatility throughout the season, shocking ITU athletes with viscious attacks on the bike during the World Series that saw her on the podium multiple times and qualifiying for the Olympic Games in Rio far ahead of the event. Despite a long season on and off the road, Duffy ranked consistently amongst the top women of the sport. Finishing the World Triathlon Series in 7th place overall, the SCOTT athlete had one major goal left: the XTERRA World Championships in Hawaii.

During the swim, Duffy made use of her strong swimming skills, keeping up with the lead men's pack. She continued to lead the race throughout the technical 10 mile mountainbike leg. However, former XTERRA World Champion and SCOTT athlete Lesley Patterson was able to reduce the gap to 1 minute 35 seconds by the time she entered T2. On the run, it was again Duffy dictating the pace and extending the gap. By the end of the 6.5 mile trail run, the Bermudan extended the gap on Paterson to 5 minutes and made herself the deserved 2015 World Champion. Paterson who came back after a long period of illness, finished second and sure will be happy by the clear signs of progress.
