Van-Genechten Wins Stage 7 of the Vuelta a España

29 August 2016
Only one day after Team ORICA-BikeExchange won stage 5 of La Vuelta and therefore completed the triple of winning stages in all three Grand Tours in 2016, Team IAM Cycling achieved the same historical success. After the wins of Roger Kluge at the Giro d'Italia and Jarlinson Pantano at the Tour de France, Jonas van Genechten won stage 7 of the Vuelta a España. During the first week of the final Grand Tour of the ongoing race season, Team IAM Cycling has been one of the most active Teams being part of many escape groups. "Ever since the beginning of this Vuelta, we have been using all our strength to stay out front. Today, we have been well rewarded for our efforts," said team rider Clément Chevrier. "In the last two kilometers, the fighting for a good position was tough, however, I was able to hold a perfect position for the uphill sprint finish." Van Genechten analyzed after the finish. "When we came around the last corner I put everying I had on the pedals. To beat guys like Valverde and Gilbert who are always strong in such finals, makes the victory even sweeter," concluded van Genechten.
